Dhaka has been ranked as the fourth most polluted city in the world, with its air quality classified as ‘unhealthy,’ according to data from Swiss-based air monitoring organization IQAir.
At 10:00 am on Thursday (March 20), Dhaka recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 158, placing it behind Delhi (224), Algiers (220), and Kathmandu (174). Lahore (156) and Dubai (154) ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.
An AQI score between 151 and 200 is categorized as ‘unhealthy,’ meaning prolonged exposure may pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions.
Higher AQI levels—ranging from 201 to 300—are considered ‘very unhealthy,’ while readings above 300 are classified as ‘hazardous,’ posing significant health threats to all residents.
With air pollution continuing to be a major concern, health experts advise residents to limit outdoor activities and take necessary precautions.
