EU conveys three messages to EC on national polls

The European Union (EU) has conveyed three key messages to the Election Commission (EC) regarding the democratic transfer of political power through elections in Bangladesh.

EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, made the remark after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the EC office on Sunday.

He said the EU wanted to understand the EC’s preparations for democratic elections and received a brief update on its work.

The first message, he said, was that the EU remains a key partner of Bangladesh and stands by the country during this crucial transition.

The second message was that the EU seeks to strengthen its partnership with Bangladesh in all aspects and supports the interim government’s efforts to conduct elections as per public expectations.

The third message was that the EU would assist the EC in holding elections according to international standards.

The ambassador added that the EU would provide financial support, share expertise, and send election observers if the Bangladeshi authorities request.
