UPDF collector shot dead in Rangamati

A collector of the Prasit Khisa-led United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was allegedly shot and killed by an armed group of the Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) in Rangamati.

Nirmal Chakma, shot on Sunday (March 16) morning. He was son of Sunil Bihari Khisa, hails from the Taichakma area of Naniarchar.

The incident took place in the Tannya Khamar Para area of Ward-9 under Sadar Upazila’s Safchhari Union.

According to locals, PCJSS members opened fire on three UPDF collectors in the area, killing UPDF's sub-post director and collector Nirmal Chakma on the spot, while the others managed to escape.

Following the incident, UPDF’s Publicity and Publications Department issued a statement, signed by Nirun Chakma, strongly condemning the attack and blaming PCJSS for the killing.

The statement accused the government of supporting Santu Larma, alleging that state agencies were backing him in carrying out violence. It also demanded the removal, arrest, and punishment of Santu Larma.

Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sahed Uddin said he was aware of the incident and that police were on their way to the scene to gather more details.
