Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami submitted its written recommendations on constitutional, judicial, electoral, public administration, and anti-corruption reforms to the National Consensus Commission today (March 20).
A delegation led by the party’s Secretary General, Professor Mia Golam Parwar, handed over the proposals to the Commission’s Vice-Chairman, Professor Ali Riaz, at the National Parliament Building this morning.
The delegation included Assistant Secretary General and former MP Hamidur Rahman Azad, along with Central Executive Council member and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand.
Speaking to journalists after the submission, Professor Mia Golam Parwar emphasized Jamaat-e-Islami’s longstanding demand for reforms to ensure fair, free, and impartial elections.
He said that while the party did not fully agree with all of the commission’s proposals, there was common ground on several issues.
Jamaat has particularly stressed the need for proportional representation in the electoral system, he also said.
“The interim government has shared its vision for the timing of the election, and we did not oppose it. Our focus remains on meaningful reforms to facilitate credible elections. We hope the interim government will take swift action to implement these changes,” Parwar added.
