Swatantra Shikkharthi Oikya (Independent Students’ Unity) panel vice-president candidate Umama Fatema has announced a boycott of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, describing the polls as “utterly shamelessly manipulated.”
She made the announcement early Wednesday, as the results of DUCSU and hall union elections were being declared.
“Boycott! Boycott! I boycott DUCSU,” Umama wrote in a Facebook post. “After 5 August, the Dhaka University administration has brought shame to the nation. This administration is controlled by Shibir.”
Meanwhile, Abidul Islam Khan, the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal-backed vice-president candidate, also rejected the DUCSU election results amid allegations of vote rigging.
According to results from various halls, Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed vice-president candidate Abu Shadik Kayem was leading the race.
