Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested former Awami League lawmaker from Nilphamari-3 constituency, Saddam Hossain Pavel, from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area.

Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner of DB (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman said Pavel was detained around 11pm on Thursday. He is accused in multiple cases linked to the July Uprising.

In separate drives, DB teams also arrested eight other leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate bodies from different parts of the capital. Police said the arrestees were involved in planning and financing sudden processions in Dhaka.
