A Dhaka court today placed former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Md Mukib Miah on a two-day remand in a case filed over the attempted murder of Dhaka College student Majedul Islam during last year’s July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order after police produced Mukib before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
Mukib Miah, former Mass Education Affairs Secretary of the now-banned BCL central committee and an ex-assistant professor of a government college, was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police on February 3 while distributing leaflets as part of an Awami League programme.
According to case documents, Majedul Islam, a Dhaka College student, was shot in the New Market area on August 2, 2024, along with his friend Mehedi Hassan and Eden College student Shammi Akhter, during the mass uprising.
Majedul’s cousin later filed an attempted murder case with New Market Police Station on August 26, 2024.
Police said Mukib is accused of direct involvement in the attack, which left several students injured.
