BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas today visited Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where Nur is undergoing treatment following a recent attack.

After the visit, Abbas said Nur’s condition required advanced care. “Nur’s nose is still bleeding. He should be sent abroad for better treatment. We hope he recovers soon,” he told reporters.

The BNP leader termed the assault on Nur deliberate. “This was not a simple brawl. It was a brutal and inhuman attack,” he said, demanding an investigation to uncover whether there was a conspiracy behind it. “We must find out who attacked him, why, and what their motive was. The government should identify the source of such incidents,” Abbas added.

Commenting on the desecration of a shrine in Rajbari on Friday, Abbas linked it to a broader political context. “Such incidents are not isolated. You will see many more incidents like this as the election nears. One group wants to stop the election,” he alleged.

Abbas’s remarks came amid heightened political tensions, with opposition leaders repeatedly alleging that violence and unrest are being engineered to influence the upcoming polls.
