A Dhaka court has ordered the imprisonment of former state minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, after the completion of his remand in the Riaz murder case linked to the anti-discrimination student movement in Dhanmondi.
The order was issued on Wednesday (March 19) by Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Zakir Hossain.
Police produced Palak before the court after his remand and sought his detention in jail. Following the request, the judge ordered him to be sent to prison.
Earlier, on March 12, the court had granted a three-day remand for Palak in the case.
According to case details, Riaz participated in the anti-discrimination movement in Dhanmondi on August 4, where he was shot and killed allegedly by police and ruling party activists. His mother, Shafia Begum, filed the case at Dhanmondi police station on September 10.
