Case filed over police attack in Khilkhet, two arrested

A case has been filed over an attack on police in Dhaka’s Khilkhet, leading to the arrest of two people.

The arrestees are Sajib and Yusuf.

Additionally, a separate case has been lodged by a victim’s family over child rape allegations, naming a 16-year-old accused.

Khilkhet Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain confirmed the matter on Wednesday (March 19).

He said police filed the case following an attack on officers in Khilkhet Bazar on Tuesday night. Sajib and Yusuf were arrested in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, the family the victim filed another case, and the accused teenager has been shown as arrested. He is currently receiving treatment at Ward 102 of Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s old building under police custody.

Dr. Shishir Kumar Ghosh, a surgery specialist at the hospital’s casualty department, said the teenager is in stable condition with injuries on different parts of his body but no internal bleeding in the head. Official documents list his age as 16, though his relatives claim he is 12 or 13.

The rape victim is undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where a forensic examination was completed in the morning.

Earlier, on Tuesday night, police detained the teenage suspect over allegations of raping a child. As officers were taking him to the station, a group attacked them in Khilkhet Bazar, vandalized a police vehicle, and snatched the suspect, beating him severely. Seven people, including police officer Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq, were injured in the attack. Both the victim and the accused were later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
