72-hr restriction imposed to stop Khaleda: Rizvi

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alleged the election commission (EC) imposed a 72-hour restriction on outsiders’ participation in campaign of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls to dissuade participation of the party chief Khaleda Zia.

Party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the allegation while addressing a press briefing at its Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka in the morning.

He said: “All the preparations were completed so that Khaleda Zia can take part in the campaign in favour of BNP’s candidate Sakhawat Hossain Khan.”

“But Khaleda Zia could not go there as the EC took an unnatural decision. We think this decision was taken after being directed by the government.”

NCC poll is scheduled to be held on December 22.

The election commission imposed a 72-hour ban on the participation of outsiders in the polls campaign.
