Khaleda-led BNP at Bangabhaban

DHAKA: A BNP delegation led by party Chairperson Khaleda Zia reached Bangabhaban on Sunday afternoon (December 18) to meet the President Abdul Hamid over reformation of the election commission (EC).

A 13-member team reached the President’s official residence at 4:30pm.

The other members of the delegation included party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Tariqul Islam, Dr Moin Khan, Mahbubur Rahman, Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Earlier, President Abdul Hamid invited five political parties, including BNP, to discuss over forming the election commission.

He will hold meetings with Jatiya Party on December 20, with LDP and Krishak Sramik Janata League on December 21 and with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) on December 23.

Besides, he would hold meetings with other registered parties gradually.

Earlier on November 18, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia presented 13-point proposal to form EC for a free and fair election.

Current EC will complete its term in February of 2017.
