A Dhaka court on Wednesday showed arrested former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegations of illegally obtaining a 10-katha RAJUK plot while falsely claiming to have only a six-storey house in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Ibrahim Miah passed the order after hearing the ACC’s petition. The court simultaneously rejected Khairul Haque’s bail petition and directed that he be sent to jail.

The ACC filed the case on August 4, naming eight individuals, including ABM Khairul Haque, under Sections 161, 163, 409, 420, and 109 of the Penal Code, along with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

According to the case statement, Haque owns a six-storey ancestral house on 18.5 kathas of land on Education Extension Road No. 2 (Nayem Road) in Dhaka. While serving as Chief Justice, he allegedly abused his position to acquire a 10-katha RAJUK plot by submitting false information in violation of Rule 13 of The Dhaka Improvement Trust (Allotment of Lands) Rules, 1969.

Even after the plot allocation was canceled, it was allegedly reinstated in his name. He is accused of delayed payment without interest, depositing money five years later, resulting in government losses of Tk 474,240.

Other accused include former RAJUK officials: Md. Nurul Huda, AEM Golam Kibria, Md. Abu Bakkar Sikder, Md. Anwarul Islam Sikder, Akhtar Hossain Bhuiyan, M Mahbubul Alam, and Nazmul Hai.

The ACC said Haque’s actions violated RAJUK policies, caused financial loss to the government, and amounted to embezzlement and abuse of power.
