Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch has arrested former secretary Bhuiyan Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, along with six other leaders and activists linked to the banned organisational activities of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies.
Police confirmed that the detentions were carried out in separate operations on Tuesday (Sept 9) in the capital and Patuakhali.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, said the arrests included Shafiqul Islam and six others associated with outlawed organisational activities.
According to DB sources, Shafiqul Islam was apprehended in Patuakhali, while the remaining six individuals were detained in different parts of Dhaka.
The police did not immediately disclose further details about the charges or the specific activities for which the individuals were arrested.
