The 101st birth anniversary of celebrated artist SM Sultan will be marked in Narail tomorrow (Sunday) with solemn tributes.
The SM Sultan Foundation, in collaboration with the district administration, has arranged a daylong programme at the Sultan Complex. Events will include a Qurankhwani at 6:00 am, wreath-laying at 9:00 am, and a doa mahfil at 9:30 am.
Deputy Commissioner and Foundation President Sharmin Akhter Jahan is scheduled to attend as the chief guest.
Sultan, born on August 10, 1924, in Masumdia, Narail, achieved international acclaim for his philosophical paintings that portray rural life. His works were exhibited abroad before earning widespread recognition in Bangladesh.
Among his accolades were the Ekushey Padak (1982), Swadhinata Padak (1993), and the title of “Man of Asia” conferred by Cambridge University.
The eminent artist passed away on 10 October 1994 and was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Narail.
