DMP issues travel advisory for Sunday’s rallies

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public advisory urging residents to avoid key areas on Sunday (August 3) due to two major political rallies and ongoing public examinations.

According to the notice signed by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, the National Citizen Party (NCP) will hold a rally at Central Shaheed Minar from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, demanding implementation of the “July Declaration and Charter.

”Simultaneously, the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) will organise a student rally at the Shahbagh intersection from 12:00pm to 6:00pm to mark the first anniversary of the July Uprising.

The DMP anticipates significant public gatherings at Shahbagh, Shaheed Minar, and Suhrawardy Udyan, which are likely to cause severe traffic congestion. To ease movement, several diversion routes have been designated.

Northbound vehicles via Hotel Intercontinental are advised to use Hare Road or Mintu Road. Traffic from Science Lab should avoid Shahbagh by diverting toward Nilkhet or Hatirpool. Vehicles from the High Court, Kadam Foara, Kakrail, Nilkhet, and Doel Chattar should use alternate internal routes to bypass Shahbagh.

The DMP has also requested examinees to leave early for HSC and BCS exam centres and urged the public to avoid roads near Shaheed Minar and Suhrawardy Udyan throughout the day.

Authorities have called for public cooperation to maintain order and minimise disruption.
