Signal 3 at Seaports, storm risk due to low pressure in Bay Seaports asked to hoist signal 3

Bangladesh's seaports have been asked to hoist local warning signal number three due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the North Bay and adjoining coastal regions, the Meteorological Department said on Monday (July 14).

Signal number one has also been issued for river ports in several southern districts, as gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected.

Meteorologist Md Toriful Newaz Kabir said the low pressure has caused significant variations in air pressure over the North Bay, prompting concerns of stormy weather. Gusty or squally winds may blow over the coastal areas and maritime ports.

As a result, the seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to display local warning signal number three.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been instructed to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

Meanwhile, meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque said rain or thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds at speeds of 45–60 km/h may occur over Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali and Noakhali.

River ports in these areas have been directed to display warning signal number one.
