A woman and her two young children were found murdered at their rented home in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh on Monday morning, police said.
The victims were identified as Moyna Akter, 25, her seven-year-old daughter Raisa, and two-year-old son Nirab.
Their bodies were recovered around 9:30 am from a house in Ward No. 7 on Panashail Road under Bhaluka Municipality.
Originally from Jane Bazar in Kendua upazila of Netrokona district, Moyna had been living in the rented home with her husband Rafiqul Islam, an employee at Russell Spinning Factory, and his younger brother Nazrul Islam.
According to police, Rafiqul returned home from his night shift around 9:00 am and found the main gate locked from the inside.
After receiving no response, he broke the lock and discovered the bodies of his wife and children with their throats slit.
Bhaluka Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Humayun Kabir said an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killings.
Mymensingh Superintendent of Police (SP) Kazi Akhter ul Alam said the incident may have stemmed from family-related issues, and that the prime suspect, Moyna’s brother-in-law, is currently absconding.
"Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the perpetrator. We hope to solve the case soon," he added.
