32 Bangladeshis return from Iran in 2nd phase

In the second phase, 32 Bangladeshi nationals returned home from Tehran on Tuesday (July 8) as the situation in Iran gradually normalizes following recent tensions with Israel.

According to a foreign ministry official, the returnees travelled via Mashhad and Sharjah and arrived in Dhaka in two phases on Tuesday.

Of them, 22 arrived on an early morning Air Arabia flight while the remaining 10 reached later in the morning on another flight.

On July 1, 28 Bangladeshis were brought back in the first phase. They had left Tehran by road on June 25, crossing the Taftan border into Pakistan’s Balochistan province before flying home via Karachi and Dubai.

Most of them were women, children and patients who had gone to Iran for medical treatment.

Officials said around 250 Bangladeshis have registered with the Bangladesh Embassy in Tehran to return home and the government has plans to facilitate their repatriation in phases if necessary.

However, with international flights operating normally again, many are expected to make their way back on their own.

Around 2,000 Bangladeshis currently live in Iran, with some 400 residing in Tehran alone. Of the registered Bangladeshis, 672 are listed with the embassy, including 66 students.
