The government has cancelled the allotment of 12 residential flats previously allocated to retired secretaries, former judges, and other ex-government officials in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.
The Ministry of Housing and Public Works confirmed the decision in an official notification issued on Tuesday (July 8).
He said that the cancellation was made following a report by a committee formed by the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the resolution of its 274th board meeting.
According to the ministry, the cancelled flats were part of the “Construction of Residential Flats at Abandoned Houses in Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur (Phase-1)” project. The building is being constructed on House No. 711 (New-63), Road No. 13 (New-6/A) in the Dhanmondi Residential Area under the authority's self-financing initiative.
The cancelled allocations included flats ranging in size from just over 2,000 to more than 4,000 square feet. Among the recipients were high-profile former officials, including a former commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, ex-senior secretaries, a former Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, a former Election Commissioner, and retired judges.
