A man has died in hospital hours after his wife succumbed to injuries from a gas explosion at their home in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area, leaving their young daughter critically injured.
The explosion took place in the early hours of Wednesday night at around 1:45 am on the ground floor of a six-storey building in the Khadimul Quran Mohila Madrasa lane on Shaheed Farooq Road.
The deceased were identified as Ripon, 40, and his wife Iti, 30.
They died while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Thursday (10 July), said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, Residential Surgeon at the institute’s emergency department.
Ripon passed away around 5:15 pm, following his wife’s death earlier in the afternoon at about 1 pm.
According to doctors, Ripon suffered burns over 70 percent of his body, including severe injuries to his airway.Their three-year-old daughter, Rafia, remains in critical condition with burns covering 90 percent of her body.
Police and fire service officials are investigating the incident.
