Indian Border Security Force (BSF) had returned eight Bangladeshis detained in India for illegal entry and stay were handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
They were returned through a flag meeting at the Mohanpur border in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj on Tuesday morning.
The individuals were identified as Mamun Miah, son of Shahjahan Miah; Sohel Miah, Shihab Uddin, and Rubel Miah, sons of Bablu Miah; Rakibul Islam, son of Jamirul Islam; Shakil Miah, son of Nurul Islam; Rihan Miah, son of Rahul Amin; and Iqbal, son of Kalu Miah. All of them are residents of Hakimpur village under Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
According to Nayek Subedar Abu Sayed of the BGB’s Dhamargor border outpost in Madhabpur, the eight men had crossed into India illegally a few days ago in search of work through the help of traffickers. They were later detained by Indian authorities and kept in custody before being formally returned to Bangladesh.
After the handover, the detainees were taken to Madhabpur Police Station around 3:00 pm.
Officer-in-Charge of Madhabpur Police Station Mohammad Shahid Ullah said a case has been filed against them under charges of illegal border crossing.
“They were later sent to Habiganj District Jail through the court,” he added.
