A low-pressure area that developed over the Bay of Bengal early Friday morning is likely to intensify into a cyclone and make landfall in India’s Odisha and Tamil Nadu states, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Duty officer Kazi Zebunnesa of the BMD told the media that the low pressure formed around 6am today and may gradually strengthen into a cyclone. “It will not hit Bangladesh directly but may cause rain in different parts of the country for two to three days from October 29,” she said.
She added that coastal areas could experience heavy rainfall, while other parts of the country may see light to moderate showers due to the system’s influence.
According to the latest met Office bulletin, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, while the rest of the country may remain mainly dry with a partly cloudy sky.
Day and night temperatures are expected to drop slightly across the country. On Thursday, the highest temperature of 36.2°C was recorded in Feni, while the lowest, 20.1°C, was recorded in Tetulia.
In Dhaka, the sun will set at 5:25 pm today and rise at 6:01 am tomorrow.
