9 Al-Bayenat men held in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ: Police detained nine members of Al-Bayenat from Shahjadpur Upazila of the district on Friday while distributing leaflets opposing setting up a university named after Rabindranath Tagore.

Police nabbed them in the afternoon and later, brought them to the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) at night.

SP SM Imran Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Emran said that during primary interrogation, the detainees confessed their resentment over establishing the university.

However, they did not tell anything protesting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit there, he added.

A case was filed in this connection.

The premier is set to lay foundation stone of the proposed university named after Rabindranath Tagore on May 8.
