BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was admitted to hospital in Dhaka shortly after returning from medical treatment abroad, party officials confirmed.
He was taken to United Hospital in the capital at around 1 am on Wednesday (August 20), according to the BNP media cell.
Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP media cell, said Fakhrul arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday evening from Bangkok, where he had been undergoing medical treatment.
After his return, he attended a meeting at the party’s Gulshan office that continued until late at night.
“Later, as he began to feel unwell, he was admitted to United Hospital,” Khan said, adding that BNP Standing Committee member Professor AZM Zahid accompanied him to the hospital.
Fakhrul had travelled to Bangkok on August 13 along with his wife for eye treatment and returned to Dhaka six days later.
