BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said there is no possibility of an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his residence in Gulshan on Tuesday.
Asked about possible electoral alliances in the upcoming polls, Salahuddin said discussions are ongoing with several Islamic parties, as the BNP believes in Islamic values, but there is no scope for a tie-up with Jamaat-e-Islami.
He said that the next national election will be held in early February 2026, adding that there is no uncertainty about this from the Election Commission, the government, or the BNP.
On the question of parties potentially avoiding the election, the BNP leader said participation is their decision, but those who boycott will isolate themselves. “I hope no one will take that risk,” he said.
On candidate selection, Salahuddin said those who played a role in the anti-fascist movement will be prioritised in nominations.
