A local leader of BNP's youth wing, Jubo Dal, was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in his residence in Khulna’s Dumuria upazila, police confirmed on Saturday (August 23).

The victim, Md Shamim, was attacked late Friday night (August 22) inside his rented house near Syed Isa College in the Atharo Mile area of Dumuria.

According to police, the attackers entered his home and struck him on the back of the neck with sharp weapons, killing him on the spot.

Family members discovered his bloodied body early Saturday morning and immediately alerted police.

Officers recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Shamim, originally from the village of Uthuli in Tala upazila’s Islamkati union, was the son of Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh. He was a former union parishad (UP) member and served as joint convenor of the Islamkati Union unit of the Jubo Dal. For years, he had been residing in the Dumuria area, where he ran a pesticide business.

Speaking to reporters, Saidur Rahman Sayeed, senior joint convenor of the Tala upazila Jubo Dal, described the incident as a "pre-planned murder" and urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly identify and apprehend those responsible.

Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station, said that additional police personnel had been deployed to the area following the incident.

“We are investigating the matter and have yet to determine the motive behind the killing,” he said.
