A Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) delegation has held talks with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin to discuss preparations for the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.
The meeting began at 4 pm on Sunday (August 17), at the Election Commission building in Dhaka.
The three-member BNP delegation was led by Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and included party chairperson’s adviser Ismail Jabiullah and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Earlier, on August 5, Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus announced in a televised address that the national election would be held in the first half of February next year. The government has already sent a letter to the Election Commission confirming the timeline.
The CEC has repeatedly stated that the election schedule will be announced two months ahead of polling day, likely in the first half of December. The commission has also indicated it will soon publish a detailed electoral roadmap.
Speaking to the media about Sunday’s meeting, BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan said: “Our discussion with the Election Commission will focus on its overall preparedness. We requested an appointment with the CEC, and he agreed. We want to understand the progress the commission has made in the run-up to the elections.”
