Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has decided to impose a ban on all types of rallies, public gatherings, processions, sit-ins, human chains, and demonstrations in several key areas of the capital.
DMP took the decision from concerns over public order and the security of the Chief Adviser.
The ban was announced through a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali on Wednesday (August 6).
The order, issued under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976 (Ordinance No. III/76), will come into effect from Friday, 8 August, and will remain in place until further notice.
The areas where all forms of public gatherings have been prohibited include: the Bangladesh Secretariat and adjacent areas, the Chief Adviser’s official residence ‘Jamuna’ and surrounding areas, Hotel Intercontinental Crossing, Kakrail Mosque Crossing, Officers’ Club Crossing, and the area between Minto Road Crossing.
DMP has previously issued similar restrictions on various occasions due to political or security reasons. However, according to police sources, this time the directive is being enforced with top priority given to the security of the Chief Adviser.
The DMP has urged all citizens to comply with the directive and warned that legal action will be taken against anyone violating the order.
