Joint Convener of the Democratic Student Front, Jane Alam Opu, has been arrested in connection with an extortion case involving Tk50 lakh.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) officials confirmed the matter on Friday (August 1).

Opu was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) from the capital’s Wari area during a raid on Thursday night (July 31). 

The arrest was made following a case filed over alleged demands for a large sum of money as extortion.

Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Detective Branch, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, said further details will be shared following preliminary investigation.

Opu faces allegations of demanding extortion in the Gulshan area, according to police sources, he said, adding the case is currently under investigation.
