Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Bangladesh’s tariff negotiation team for the successful conclusion of a historic trade agreement with the United States, calling it a major diplomatic victory for the country.
On Friday morning (August 1), the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, shared this immediate reaction in a post on his verified Facebook page.
The Chief Adviser stated that securing a 20 percent tariff rate—17 points lower than the originally proposed rate—was a clear demonstration of the negotiating team’s exceptional strategic acumen and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Bangladesh’s economic interests.
He said that since February, the team had worked tirelessly, navigating complex negotiations involving tariff, non-tariff, and national security issues with remarkable success.
The agreement, he added, has preserved Bangladesh’s comparative advantage, expanded access to the world’s largest consumer market, and robustly protected national interests.
The Chief Adviser further remarked that this achievement not only recognises Bangladesh’s growing strength on the international stage but also opens the door to greater opportunities, accelerated development, and long-term prosperity.
He also said, “Bangladesh’s future is now undoubtedly bright. Today’s success reflects our national resilience and bold vision for a strong economic future.”
