A Dhaka court today sentenced two people to death for the 2010 murder of Yasmin Alam and her daughter Irina Alam Tanha in the capital’s Kadamtali area.

Judge Nargis Islam of Dhaka 2nd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the judgment in presence of the convicts. 

Both were also fined Tk 20,000 each.

According to case details, Yasmin and her daughter were strangled on May 8, 2010, allegedly by the former wife of Yasmin’s husband and her associates. 

Yasmin’s brother, Monir Hossain, filed the case with Kadamtali Police Station, and a charge sheet was submitted on August 31, 2010.

The court framed charges on January 8, 2022, and examined 15 witnesses before delivering the verdict.
