The government has clarified that it has no intention of conferring the title of "National Reformer" on the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, nor does he seek such recognition.
The clarification came on Tuesday from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, following reports that a writ petition had been filed in the High Court, prompting a rule asking why Dr Yunus should not be declared a national reformer.
“The government will respond to the rule in due course after receiving a copy of the order,” the press wing said in a statement.
It added, “Professor Yunus does not intend to be declared as such, nor does the government plan to confer any such title on him.”
The statement further noted that the petition was filed independently by a private individual, and it remains unclear on what grounds the request was made. The matter will be addressed by the Office of the Attorney General.
