A young man has been shot and hacked to death in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram district, police said on Thursday (July 10).

The victim was identified as Md Russel, 25, son of Mohammad Ali from the same area.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in the Mobarak Ali Tila area of Padua Union.

Sabir Mohammad Selim, Officer-in-Charge of South Rangunia Police Station, told Banglanews24 that a group of assailants attacked Russel, shooting him and hacking him with sharp weapons. The attackers severed his wrist before leaving his body in a paddy field.

Police recovered the body from the scene and prepared an inquest report. The remains will be sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Multiple injury marks were found on different parts of the body, the officer said.

Law enforcers have launched an operation to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.
