The Election Commission (EC) will announce the roadmap for the upcoming national elections at the appropriate time, in line with directives from the Chief Adviser, said Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain on Sunday.

He made the remark while speaking to journalists during a views exchange at Jahapur Bazar in Muradnagar, Cumilla.

Highlighting the importance of local government bodies, the adviser said the absence of elected representatives has led to disruptions in essential public services across the country.

“It is unfortunate that major national media outlets are increasingly relying on politically motivated rumours circulating on social media,” he added.

Asif Mahmud, who also serves as the Youth and Sports Adviser, said a group of individuals had defamed his family over a recent incident in Chandpur.

“I have spoken to the Information Ministry about the matter. As a citizen, I will pursue legal action,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the adviser visited several areas in Muradnagar, exchanging Eid greetings with residents. He also inspected ongoing development projects in Babutipara, Paharpur, Chaliakandi, Jahapur, Shushunda, Darora, and Nahol Chowmohani.
