Responding to growing questions over the return of former President Abdul Hamid amid a murder case linked to the July-August Movement, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said, "No one will be spared if found guilty—no matter who they are.”
Speaking to reporters during a visit to Jatrabari Police Station in the capital, the adviser assured that all allegations would be thoroughly investigated and justice would prevail.
“You [journalists] said some cases are still under investigation. We will not punish anyone without evidence. But if anyone is proven guilty, they will be brought under the law,” he said.
Abdul Hamid returned to Dhaka on early Monday (June 9) after spending several weeks abroad for medical treatment. His departure, shortly after being accused in connection with the deaths of protesters during the July-August anti-government demonstrations, stirred controversy in political circles. Three police officers were also disciplined for negligence during the protests.
The Home Affairs Adviser confirmed that a three-member advisory committee has been formed in Kishoreganj to examine the charges. “They will submit a report. Based on that, action will be taken,” he said, stressing that “no one is above the law.”
On the Eid security situation, Chowdhury said he was “fairly satisfied,” noting that while a few road accidents and petty crimes occurred, no major security threats were reported.
