Two killed as truck hits easy-bike in Khulna

Two people, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed and four others injured after a truck hit an easy-bike near the Khanjahan Ali Bridge in Khulna early Monday (June 9).

The accident occurred around 6:00 am in the Darogar Lease area, on the western approach to the Rupsa (Khanjahan Ali) Bridge, police confirmed.

The deceased have been identified as Rafiqul Islam (56), the driver of the easy-bike, and Tanjil (12), one of the passengers.

The four injured individuals were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment.

According to Sub-Inspector Md Abdur Rahim, in-charge of the Luanchara Police Camp, the ill-fated people were travelling to visit relatives in Khulna after arriving from Chandpur. After disembarking from a bus, they boarded an easy-bike to cross the bridge when a speeding truck coming from Bagerhat rammed into the vehicle.

“The collision left the easybike driver and the boy dead on the spot,” SI Rahim said. “The bodies have been sent to the Khulna Medical College morgue for autopsy.”

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and efforts are underway to trace the truck and its driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the crash.
