A Dhaka court today placed Mehraj Islam, 20, the prime accused in the murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Primeasia University, on a five-day remand.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub passed the order after police sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.

Mehraj was arrested by RAB-13 on April 23 from Gaibandha Sadar. He is accused of leading the April 19 attack in Banani, where Parvez and his friend Tariqul Islam were assaulted with sharp weapons.

Parvez later died at Kurmitola General Hospital. His cousin filed a case on April 20, naming eight individuals and accusing up to 30 people in the attack.
