Two motorcyclists were killed after being hit by a bus on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway, near the southern end of the Padma Bridge, late Saturday night.
The accident occurred around 11:30pm on August 2 in the Jajira area of Shariatpur district, near the Padma Bridge South Police Station.
Zahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Highway Police Station confirmed the matter.
Of the two deceased one was identified as Mohammad Ali Ontu, 26, son of Golam Kibria from Joynabari area in Hemayetpur, Savar under Dhaka district.
OC Zahidul said the two youths were travelling from Dhaka towards Bhanga in Faridpur on a motorcycle. After crossing the toll plaza of the Padma Bridge, a bus approaching from behind hit their motorcycle, crushing it and throwing both riders off the road. They fell into a roadside ditch after hitting the ground and died on the spot.
Police recovered the bodies shortly after being informed. The bus involved in the accident could not be identified as the driver fled the scene immediately, the officer added.
Legal action will be taken in connection with the incident, he said.
