Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that police officers are not allowed to arrest anyone in plain clothes.
He also warned against the return of flattery and lobbying practices in the police force.
Jahangir Alam made the remarks on Tuesday (April 22) during a view exchange meeting with officials from different government departments at the conference room of the Jessore Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The adviser stressed the need to strengthen community policing to improve law and order.
He also instructed law enforcers to closely monitor top criminals who are out on bail and to work on recovering weapons looted during past student uprisings.
Among others, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Lt Gen (retd) Abdul Hafiz, Jessore GOC Maj Gen JM Imdadul Islam, Khulna DIG Rezaul Haque, DC Azaharul Islam, and SP Rowonok Jahan were present.
Chowdhury warned that any failure to act strongly against drugs will lead to dismissal from service.
He said that recruitment and transfer business in the police has been brought under control since the interim government took office, and now efforts must be made to stop bribery by officers-in-charge (OCs).
He also commented on the ongoing lobbying culture, stating, “Since becoming an adviser, the number of my so-called relatives and friends has increased. If anyone lobbies using my name, offer them tea and snacks, then hand them over to law enforcement.”
