The Election Commission (EC) has decided to extend the deadline for new political parties to submit their registration applications for the upcoming general election. The new deadline is set for June 22.
This extension was made in response to requests from various political parties seeking more time.
Earlier, the EC had set April 20 as the deadline for these parties to apply for registration. However, due to multiple requests, the commission has granted additional time.
One of the newly established parties, the National Citizen Party (NCP), has formally requested a 90-day extension to submit their registration application. According to EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz, around 20 aspiring parties have asked for the deadline to be extended.
Parties that fail to register will not be eligible to participate in the national elections. The 13th parliamentary election is expected to be held between December 2025 and June 2026, as confirmed by Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus.
