Chief Adviser and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Muhammad Yunus, today said the need to accelerate reform initiatives to ensure national elections are held as scheduled in December.
He made the call during a meeting with Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and member Dr Badiul Alam Majumder at the State Guest House Jamuna.
Special Assistant Monir Haider was also present.
The Commission members briefed Prof Yunus on the progress of ongoing discussions with political parties, noting that talks have been completed with eight parties so far.
A meeting with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is planned for Thursday.
They also outlined efforts to gather public opinion and raise awareness about reform agendas.
Prof Yunus reiterated the importance of continuing dialogue with political parties to push the reform process forward.
