As part of enhanced security measures for safe travel ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has decided to deploy four Ansar personnel on each launch starting from tomorrow (March 16), marking 15th Ramadan.
This security measure will continue for two days after Eid.
The deployment comes alongside regular patrols by the Navy, Police, RAB, and Coast Guard to prevent crime and ensure the safety of passengers on waterways, including key routes like Narayanganj, Gazaria-Munshiganj, Chandpur, and Barishal-Bhola.
The Shipping Ministry meeting emphasized security measures, including preventing overcharging and overloading on launches.
Ansar and community police will be stationed at the Sadarghat terminal in Dhaka to manage traffic and prevent hawkers from disrupting passenger movement.
In addition, the government will halt speedboat operations at night, ensure life jackets are worn by passengers during the day, and restrict sand-carrying vessels for five days after Eid.
Ferry services will be available at seven piers to alleviate congestion.
BIWTA will activate a control room and hotline, and rescue ships will be on standby.
The Fire Service and Civil Defense will also be prepared for emergency situations.
The government aims to make the Eid journey safer, more comfortable, and enjoyable for passengers through these comprehensive security and operational measures.
