Police have arrested three counterfeiters and seized fake currency notes worth Tk 20 lakh, along with tools used for manufacturing the notes, in Dhaka's Kamrangirchar area.
The arrested individuals were identified as Suman, 38, Sultana, 28, and Hanif Gazi, 48.
Acting on a tip-off, a Kamrangirchar Police team raided Madbar Bazar on Thursday, recovering counterfeit notes worth Tk 4 lakh from the suspects.
Further investigation led police to Siddhirgang, Narayanganj, where they recovered fake notes and equipment worth around Tk 16 lakh.
The recovered counterfeit notes were in 500 and 1,000 taka denominations, along with partially printed 1,000 taka notes valued at Tk 9.76 lakh.
Police also seized materials including a computer, color printer, special papers, sticky gum, and chemicals used in the production of fake currency.
The three were arrested and shown in a case filed under the Special Powers Act, 1974.
The suspects, with multiple cases filed against them across the country, were produced in court and granted a two-day remand.
