KOICA deepens NGO collaboration in Bangladesh with 2025 partnership workshop

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Bangladesh Office has wrapped up its KOICA–NGO Partnership Enhancement Workshop 2025 in Dhaka, convening leading NGOs, government officials, and development partners to boost collaboration and amplify the impact of ongoing projects in Bangladesh.

The day-long event brought together representatives from KOICA-funded partners including ADRA, Oxfam, Global Care, Habitat for Humanity, ChildFund, Concern Worldwide, Save the Children, and Heart to Heart Foundation.

Sessions featured detailed project presentations, government engagement briefings, and peer-learning discussions focused on improving performance management, expanding partnerships, and enhancing community outreach.

Opening the workshop, KOICA Country Director Jihoon Kim reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment through close cooperation with civil society organizations. “Partnerships are central to KOICA’s mission of creating lasting, inclusive development outcomes,” he said.

Key highlights included presentations by Habitat for Humanity, Oxfam, and ChildFund, which showcased field progress and shared practical lessons. Government officials, including Dr K. M. Mamun Uzzaman, Director (Registration & Audit) of the NGO Affairs Bureau, and Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, Additional DIG (SCO) of the Special Branch of Police, provided guidance on compliance and project implementation requirements.

The workshop followed a field visit on September 22 to Rangpur, where KOICA officials and seven partner NGOs reviewed progress on the flagship initiative “Strengthening the Maternal and Neonatal Health System in Rangpur, Bangladesh.”

The USD 10 million, five-year program—one of KOICA’s largest health projects in the country—aims to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes across the Rangpur Division. The delegation observed adolescent-friendly services, community initiatives such as Bou-Shashurir Mela, and engaged with local healthcare providers, officials, and beneficiaries at Union Health & Family Welfare Centers.

Through the two-day program, KOICA reiterated its vision of advancing inclusive and sustainable development in Bangladesh by fostering strong partnerships, reinforcing accountability, and promoting impactful, community-based solutions.
