Extensive preparations underway for free, fair polls in Feb: CA

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that extensive preparations are underway to hold free, fair, and peaceful parliamentary elections in the first half of February.

He made the remarks during a meeting with US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor, in New York on Monday (September 22, local time).

Yunus said Bangladesh is fully prepared to hold the election in February, ensuring it will be free, fair, and peaceful.

During the meeting, Sergio Gor praised the leadership of the Chief Adviser and reaffirmed the United States’ continued support for Bangladesh.

The two sides discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including trade, South Asian regional cooperation, the revival of SAARC, the Rohingya crisis, and misinformation campaigns targeting Dhaka.

The Chief Adviser sought continued US assistance for over one million Rohingya refugees residing in Cox’s Bazar. In response, US officials pledged to maintain life-saving support for the displaced population.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Yunus invited Sergio to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.
