The curtain of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 will rise on December 17 this year, departing from its traditional February start.
The month-long literary festival will run until January 17 next year, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The decision was made at a meeting held at the Bangla Academy with Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman in the chair.
The schedule was adjusted in light of the upcoming parliamentary election in February 2026 and the holy month of Ramadan, which will also begin that month, according to meeting sources.
Bangla Academy Director General Prof Mohammad Azam, along with the academy’s secretary, directors, and representatives from the Bangladesh Pustak Prokashok O Bikreta Samity, attended the meeting.
