A European Union (EU) pre-election observer team is set to arrive in Bangladesh on September 22 ahead of the upcoming national elections.
Senior Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the matter today at a press briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.
According to Akhtar, the EU delegation will meet with an Election Commissioner and official-level representatives of the EC Secretariat on their arrival. Discussions will focus on election preparations, the country’s political situation ahead of the polls, and measures taken to ensure free and fair elections.
The EU team will comprise three foreign observers and four local observers. During their visit, they are also scheduled to hold meetings with political parties, civil society members, media personnel, and government officials.
