A Dhaka court has sent rickshaw puller Azizur Rahman to jail in an attempted murder case linked to last year’s anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jennifer Jerin passed the order today.
Azizur was beaten by a mob on 15 August while placing flowers at Dhanmondi-32 to pay tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, then detained by police.
He is accused of involvement in the 4 August shooting of Md Ariful Islam during clashes in the Dhanmondi–Science Lab area, where protesters allegedly fired bullets and hurled bombs. Police sought his detention to continue the investigation.
