Two residential students of a madrasa in Gomastapur Upazila of Chapainawabganj district have died mysteriously early Saturday, according to hospital and police sources.

The deceased were identified as Tania, 12, daughter of Tariqul Islam from Lebudanga village, and Jamila, 10, daughter of Soibur Rahman from Begpur village, both under Radhanagar Union.

The incident occurred at Shefali Begum Mohila Hafezia Madrasa in the Dobarmore area of Radhanagar Union. Police said that around 1 am, while other students were asleep, the two girls suddenly fell ill.

Madrasa teacher Sahida Khatun rushed them to Gomastapur Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared them dead.

Ashraf Ali, director of the madrasa, stated that 13 students had gone to sleep together on Friday night. Two of them became sick in the early hours, and despite being taken to the hospital, they died soon after.

Dr Abdul Alim of the health complex reported that one of the girls was already dead upon arrival, while the other died shortly after being admitted.

Gomastapur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Wadud Alam, described the deaths as “mysterious” and confirmed that the bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination. He said police were investigating the case to determine the cause of death.
